In the past, broadcasters had to choose between proprietary terminal equipment frames and lock into a single-manufacturer’s terminal equipment and control system. Then in April 2006, Ross created the openGear standard to give choice to the industry. The openGear terminal equipment frame is open to other manufacturers to create products that are compatible physically, electrically and from a control perspective. Any product that is openGear compliant can plug into and will “just work” within the frame. Broadcasters and production companies no longer have to lock into a proprietary solution. Maximum flexibility and choice is now available with openGear.
“The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television is pleased to Award this year’s Outstanding Technical Achievement Award to Ross Video and partners for their openGear Multi-Definition Terminal Equipment,” says Maria Topalovich, President and CEO of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television. “Their exceptional innovation truly is an asset to the Canadian Television industry.”
“We are thrilled openGear has won a Gemini for Outstanding Technical Achievement,” said David Ross, CEO, Ross Video. “openGear has revolutionized the terminal equipment industry by giving the customer the freedom and flexibility to choose the best solution for their needs. This award acknowledges the hard work of all the talented individuals and partners that are involved with the openGear Multi-Definition Terminal Equipment platform.”
The openGear partners include Ross Video, Cobalt Digital, Ward-Beck, Claratech, B&M, Wohler, and Telecast.
openGear received the Award for Innovation in Media (AIM) and the prestigious TV Technology Magazine STAR Award (Superior Technology Award Recipient) at NAB 2006, the worlds largest electronic media conference and exhibition. openGear leads the advancement of technological equipment solutions and is setting the highest standard in the broadcast industry.
