Ryerson Goes HD with Ross

Iroquois, ON, Canada – March 14, 2006 – Ross Video announced today Ryerson University’s School of Radio and Television Arts has chosen Synergy multi-definition (MD) and standard definition (SD) production switchers to upgrade three control rooms, making it the first academic HDTV studio in Canada.

“We went through a lengthy planning process to rebuild our outdated studios and wanted a foundation that included HD technology. Synergy is consistent, user-friendly, easy to teach, and it gives students the ability to challenge and express themselves creatively,” said Dan Greenwood, Production Facilities Manager, Ryerson University. “Ross has been excellent to work with and moving to high end switchers such as Synergy allows us to maintain our reputation as the flagship media broadcasting program in Canada.”

The switchers were installed in the Rogers Communications Centre in time for the fall 2005 semester. Studio A is equipped with the Synergy 2 MD, Studio B the Synergy 2 SD and Studio C the Synergy 1 SD. Students have the ability to learn basic operations of the switcher all the way to advanced effects and controls in HD and SD formats. The planning process took two years and included in depth research and a call to tender.

“We are very pleased to be working with Ryerson University to advance the technology in their studios,” said David Ross, CEO, Ross Video. “The School of Radio and Television Arts is one of Canada’s most successful media arts programs and we’re confident the next generation of students learning Synergy MD and SD switchers will have the tools to succeed in any live production environment.“

The Synergy MD/X series are fully equipped multi-definition production switchers supporting a wide variety of SD and HD video formats. Synergy MD/X is based on the latest technology in both hardware and software offering a readiness for the future. Synergy MD/X does not require costly upgrades when moving from SD to HD.
